MUCH ADO ABOUT
NOTHING
Plans for our autumn
production, Much Ado About Nothing, are well under way
with auditions coming up soon. Although Much Ado is considered
to be one of Shakespeare’s comedies, the play presents both
good and evil characters. Much of the amusement comes from the
‘merry war’ of words between Beatrice and Benedick, to say nothing
of the fun offered by Dogberry and Verges, the over-zealous
members of the local watch. Evil finds its home in the wicked,
scheming Don John and his followers, Conrade and Borachio, although
their plans to destroy the relationship between Hero and Claudio
finally come to nothing and all is resolved happily. The play
will be performed in the Bourne Hall during the last week of
October 2009.
The play calls for
a large cast of four women (no problem there) and twelve to
fourteen men. Therein lies the challenge! We desperately need
all our male actors plus any of their friends who would like
to perform in a Shakespeare play to come to the auditions. Enthusiasm
is as important as talent as our director, Ian Cullen, is an
inspiration to both the novice and the more experienced actor.
The auditions take
place on two consecutive Sundays, May 31st and June
7th, between 2.30pm – 5.30pm in the Studio Room of
the United Reformed Church, South Street, Farnham. Audition pieces are available for downloading here.

THE SHAKESPEARE
REVUE
You may remember
that last June we had a highly successful two-night run of the
Shakespeare Revue, which is an entertaining and irreverent take
on the Bard. The show includes songs and sketches by many renowned
songwriters and actors such as Cole Porter, Noel Coward, Stephen
Sondheim, Victoria Wood, Maureen Lipman, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie
and even Shakespeare himself! The show was a sell-out with many
people being disappointed at not being able to buy tickets.
We are reviving
the show this summer, giving two performances, one in Farnham
and one in Camberley. The Farnham show takes place at St. Joan’s
Centre, Tilford Road on Friday, June 12th at 8pm.
The one at Camberley takes place the week before at High Cross
Church, Knoll Road on Saturday, June 6th at 8pm.
Tickets are £10 each and can be obtained from the Box Office
on 01252 716342/315112. Tickets can also be ordered online at
FSCbookings@hotmail.co.uk
The main purpose
of the show is to raise some much needed funds for the Company
so please come along to support us and encourage lots of your
friends to join you. It really is a great show! In the words
of the theatre critic who saw it last summer, it is…'a delight
and surprise that there is a much less serious side to the FSC’s
thespian abilities’.
FARNHAM
COMMUNITY ARTS FESTIVAL
Once again, the
FSC is taking part in the festival. Members of the Company will
be reading stories to children in Waterstones bookshop at 11am
on Saturday, May 16th. The stories will be suitable
for all the family so do come along and introduce them to the
joys of Shakespeare.
GETTING MORE
BUMS ON SEATS
You will recently
have received an email asking you to take part in an experiment
to increase our audience numbers by sending out cascading emails
to friends and family giving details of our upcoming shows and
events. I would ask you to consider seriously taking part in
the experiment – it would be lovely to sell out all our shows,
thus ensuring that the FSC can continue to contribute high quality
performances to live theatre in the area.
I look forward to
meeting many of you at future events.
Kind regards
Ann Wake
Chairman
