The Chairman's February 2008 Newsletter

Dear FSC Supporters

The first Annual General Meeting of the revitalised Farnham Shakespeare Company took place on Tuesday, January 29th 2008, and was very well-attended. Click here to see the Farnham Herald's report.

I should like to highlight some of the exciting events that have been planned for 2008.

The Shakespeare Revue – June 2008

We are hoping to present a two-night run of The Shakespeare Revue in June, provisionally 19th and 20th. The revue is a mixture of amusing musical pieces and short sketches. Anyone interested in performing should call me on 01252 713721 or email me at annwake@postmaster.co.uk.

Main production: Merry Wives – October 2008

The Merry Wives of Windsor will take place during the last week of October in the Bourne Hall. Ian Cullen will again be directing the company, and will hold auditions in the Studio Room at the URC in Farnham on two consecutive Sundays in May (18th and 25th) from 3.00 to 6.00 pm. Details of audition pieces will be circulated as soon as they are available.

An informal reading of the play – not an audition – has been arranged for Sunday, February 24th at Jeremy Newton’s house in Fleet at 6.30pm. This is open to everyone whether or not they are considering auditioning for a part. Please let him know if you are planning to attend.

Theatre visits

Margot Tringham has offered to organise a trip to the Globe Theatre to see The Merry Wives of Windsor on Saturday, July 12th at 2.00 pm. Please contact her as soon as possible if you would like to go.

Jeremy Newton has organised a trip to the Roundhouse on Saturday, May 10th to see the RSC performing Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 (performances are at 10.30 and 15.00). If you would like to join the FSC group, but were unable to contact Jeremy last month, you can still book for both plays - see www.roundhouse.org.uk. Please let Jeremy know if you are making your own arrangements, as it would be nice to get together for lunch during the break.

Annual subscriptions

Finally, please may I remind you that your subscriptions for 2008 are now due for renewal? It was decided at the AGM to increase the subs for the first time since the company’s inception in 1991. A single membership is now £15 and a family membership is £20.

Your support is vital to the survival of the company and it would be much appreciated if you would send your renewals to Hilary Lee-Corbin, Raspuncher House, Frensham, Surrey GU10 3EQ.

We look forward to seeing you at one or more of the events we have organised this year.

Best wishes,

Ann Wake
