September/October 2010

Dear FSC Supporter
A Midsummer Night’s Dream July 2010

It has certainly been an interesting experience moving our yearly production to a new venue, as well as having it during the summer, as was FSC’s custom years ago. The Performing Arts Centre at Frensham Heights School gave the company the chance to perform in a proper theatre space – and what a difference that made. Not only did we have superb facilities but we also attracted larger audiences than we did in the Bourne Hall, resulting for the first time, in a modest profit.

The committee was so pleased with the result that we have decided to perform there again next summer. It is, therefore, a great pleasure to announce that we are planning to put on a production of Romeo and Juliet in July 2011 (20th-23rd). Once again, the company will be directed by Ian Cullen. Auditions will take place in March, details of which will be included in the next newsletter.
Heritage Open Days

The FSC took part in this event again in September, offering two scenes from our summer production. We were given the Lion and Lamb courtyard as our venue which had the advantage of passing shoppers. Many people stopped to see what was going on with many staying to enjoy the Mechanicals strutting their stuff. Sincere thanks go to all the actors, Frances Kirby, Ellis Nicholls and Ian Cullen for giving up their time to take part in this event. It is good publicity to be seen joining in community events, the hope being that the public will support our shows once they have seen what we can do.
Performance Opportunities with the National Trust

We have received an invitation from the National Trust which is ‘looking for a variety of performers to come to our properties (Hatchlands Park and Clandon Park), to give performances that bring alive the properties for visitors on open days, either as a one off arrangement or on an ad-hoc basis’.

New Committee Members

After four really enjoyable years, it is time for me to pass on the chance of chairing our wonderful company to a new person. I shall retire from the committee after the AGM in January but shall continue to support the FSC as an ordinary member.

We will also be losing Martyn Lewis which is a real blow as he has done so much to improve and enliven our website. He is planning to return to Wales shortly so we wish him all the best for the future.

There are, therefore, two vacancies on the committee for next year. If you have lots of energy and would like to be involved in the running of the FSC please let me or our secretary, Jeremy Newton, know. I can honestly say that all members of my committee have worked hard to ensure the success of the Company and are a pleasure to work with.
Annual General Meeting
January 2011

Our AGM takes place at the United Reformed Church, South Street, Farnham on Thursday, January 27th 2011 at 8pm. If you would like to stand for the committee please contact our secretary, Jeremy Newton.

My Personal Thank You

Your support has been invaluable over the four years of my chairmanship, for which I thank you most sincerely. Please continue to help the FSC consolidate on this year’s success and to grow bigger and better thus providing our local area with high quality theatre.
